Bulletstorm and Outriders Developers Cancel Two Unannounced Projects Amid Funding Challenges
People Can Fly Cancels Two Upcoming Projects Due to Funding and Partnership Issues
Polish game developer People Can Fly has announced the suspension of work on two highly anticipated projects, Gemini and Bifrost. Studio head Sebastian Wojciechowski revealed that the company is also reducing its staff as part of this difficult decision. The primary reasons cited are failed negotiations with an unnamed publisher and a shortage of resources necessary to continue development.
Uncertainty Surrounds the Future of Gemini and Bifrost
According to Wojciechowski, the Gemini project has been put on hold because the publisher has yet to provide an updated agreement outlining the next phases of development. The publisher’s intentions remain unclear, leaving the studio in limbo about whether the collaboration will continue or be terminated entirely.
Meanwhile, Bifrost was also paused following these developments and after an internal review of the studio’s financial state. The analysis revealed that there were insufficient funds to sustain the development of both projects simultaneously, leading to the decision to halt work on Bifrost.
Unannounced Games and the Uncertain Future
Since neither Gemini nor Bifrost had been officially announced to the public, there is a strong possibility that fans may never learn what these games could have become. The cancellation leaves many questions unanswered about the potential stories and gameplay experiences that were in development.
Studio’s Response and Future Plans
In his statement, Sebastian Wojciechowski expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the projects, while also conveying regret over the current situation:
“We are deeply saddened by how things have turned out and are thankful to everyone who contributed to these projects.”
Despite setbacks, People Can Fly continues to work on other initiatives. Currently, the studio is assisting The Coalition in developing the Gears of War: E-Day prequel, working on a cooperative survival game called Lost Rift, and actively developing three additional unannounced titles with code names Bison, Echo, and Delta.
Historical Context and Previous Announcements
Earlier reports indicated that a PlayStation-exclusive game, The Order 1886, was planned to have two sequels, titled The Order: 1891 and The Order: 1899. However, these projects did not materialize, and the cancellation of Gemini and Bifrost adds to the uncertainty surrounding the studio’s future projects.
