Charlie Cox Feels Like a Fraud Despite Success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Charlie Cox’s Surprising Perspective on His Voice Acting Role

Despite being associated with one of the frontrunners for the 2025 Game of the Year, Charlie Cox admits he often feels like “a total fraud” when people congratulate him on the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Known primarily for his role as Daredevil, Cox’s voiceover work in this new video game has garnered widespread praise, yet he remains modest about his contribution.

Outstanding Performance of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 marks the debut project from French studio Sandfall Interactive and has exceeded all expectations. The game sold approximately 3.3 million copies within just 33 days after release, a remarkable feat considering many industry insiders predicted it would be overshadowed by larger titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Its impressive sales demonstrate how a well-crafted indie game can capture the gaming community’s attention.

Charlie Cox’s Involvement in the Game

In the game, Cox voices the character Gustave, one of the key party members. The cast also features notable actors like Jennifer English as Maelle, Ben Starr as Verso, and Andy Serkis as Renoir. Interestingly, Cox revealed at the 2025 Washington State Summer Con that his actual work on the game consisted of a single four-hour recording session. This minimal involvement contrasts with the game’s massive success and widespread acclaim.

The Actor’s Humble Reflections

As shared by fansites and social media posts, Cox expressed his delight for Sandfall Interactive’s achievement, but also his humility. “I don’t mean to diminish the game’s greatness,” he explained. “I’m not a gamer and haven’t played it myself. My agent just asked if I wanted to do a voiceover, and I spent about four hours in the studio. People keep telling me how amazing it is, and I keep feeling like a fraud. Still, I’m incredibly happy for the company and proud of what they’ve achieved.”

This candid admission highlights how even successful actors can experience imposter syndrome, especially when their role is seemingly minimal but the project gains enormous recognition.

Future Plans for Clair Obscur and Updates

Recently, Sandfall Interactive announced they are exploring a range of future updates for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. These improvements will include accessibility enhancements, new content, and expanded localization options to reach a broader audience worldwide. While specific timelines and languages are not yet confirmed, the development team assures fans that these upgrades are a priority, emphasizing their commitment to continuous improvement.

Charlie Cox’s Current Projects and Potential Cameos

Meanwhile, Cox is busy filming for the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, which has already been renewed for a second season. He has portrayed Matt Murdock / Daredevil in seven Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, starting with Netflix’s Daredevil series (2015–2018). Fans are wondering whether Cox will reprise his role in next year’s film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Considering his cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Jon Bernthal’s willingness to return as Punisher, there’s a strong possibility Cox will make an appearance, further exciting Marvel fans.
