Cyberpunk 2077 to Receive Another Major Update and Potential New DLC
Upcoming Major Patch and Possible New Content for Cyberpunk 2077
Despite shifting focus to the development of a highly anticipated sequel, CD Projekt Red continues to support the original Cyberpunk 2077 with ongoing updates. Fans can look forward to another significant patch, along with the possibility of new story-driven downloadable content (DLC).
Details of the Next Patch and Developer Teasers
The news was announced during a recent CD Projekt Red live stream, known as REDstreams. The developers cheekily commented, “The last patch was not the final one,” hinting at continued support for the game. The upcoming update, version 2.3, is scheduled for release on June 26th. While official details about the specific improvements are still under wraps, players can expect a variety of bug fixes and quality-of-life enhancements.
Hints of New DLC Surface from Developer Activity
A notable clue emerged when a Virtuos employee listed on LinkedIn revealed that they had been working on DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 since April 2025. The description mentioned “new quests involving existing characters,” suggesting that the upcoming content may expand on the game’s universe without introducing entirely new protagonists. Shortly after this leak, the employee removed the post, but the information has already sparked considerable speculation among fans.
Virtuos and Their Role in Supporting Cyberpunk 2077
Virtuos is a Chinese outsourcing studio that previously contributed to the 2.2 update for Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2024. Their involvement indicates a close collaboration with CD Projekt Red, making the potential for new DLC more credible. However, the studio has not officially confirmed any upcoming expansions, leaving fans eager for further announcements.
Existing and Future Content for Cyberpunk 2077
To date, CD Projekt Red has not announced any additional DLC beyond the expansion Phantom Liberty, which was released in September 2023. At that time, it was believed to be the game’s sole expansion, but ongoing updates suggest that more content could be on the horizon.
Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2 and Enhanced Performance
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 was released on June 5th alongside the new console. Early comparisons between the game on Steam Deck and Switch 2 reveal that the latter offers better visuals, thanks to DLSS support. In contrast, the Steam Deck version suffers from more noticeable image softness due to FSR limitations.
Expanding the Cyberpunk Universe Beyond Gaming
The Cyberpunk universe is set to grow beyond video games. Following the success of the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, developers are exploring options for a full-fledged TV series or even a feature film. The production is expected to involve talented creators known for acclaimed series like True Detective and Mr. Robot, promising a rich expansion of the franchise’s storytelling.
