Free Visual Upgrade for Dying Light Coming This June — Not a Full Remake
Exciting Free Update for Dying Light: Enhanced Graphics and Sound
Good news for fans of the original Dying Light: Techland is releasing a free update called Retouched, scheduled for June 26th across all gaming platforms. This update aims to significantly improve the game’s visual and audio quality, giving players a fresh experience without buying a new version.
What’s Included in the Retouched Update?
The upcoming patch will feature major enhancements to textures, shadows, and lighting effects, making the game world look more realistic and immersive. The developers have also worked extensively on sound design, adding new ambient sounds and improving the overall audio response during gameplay. These improvements are designed to elevate the atmosphere and make encounters feel more intense and authentic.
Not a Remake — Just an Optimized Version of the Original
Initially, there was some confusion among fans, with many believing this update might be a complete remaster. However, Timon Smektala, the creative director of the series, clarified that Dying Light Retouched is not a full remake or re-release. Instead, it’s a meticulous effort to extract the maximum visual and auditory potential from the original game, preserving its core while enhancing its appearance and sound.
Behind the Scenes of the Visual and Audio Improvements
According to Krzysztof Knefel, the lead 3D artist, the team personally reviewed nearly every asset on the game’s map. He explained that he went through the entire world, identifying models and textures that could benefit from improvements. This hands-on approach ensured a high-quality upgrade with attention to detail.
Additionally, the original composer, Pavel Blashchak, created new soundtrack elements, adding fresh musical layers to the game. The ambient sounds, environmental noises, and sound effects related to combat and enemy interactions were also refined to provide a more immersive experience.
Performance and Accessibility
All these enhancements will be available free of charge, with Techland assuring players that the update will not increase the game’s system requirements. Owners of lower-end PCs can enjoy the improved visuals and sound without worrying about performance issues.
Stay Tuned for More Announcements
Recently, Techland also revealed the release date for Dying Light: The Beast, a spin-off featuring Kile Crain, at Summer Game Fest 2025. Fans of the series can look forward to new adventures and content coming soon.
