Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says dropping chip restrictions would bring jobs to the US
Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang says free the chips.
“[It would be good] to make the American standard the standard,” Huang said at the Milken Institute Conference Tuesday on why it’s important to not restrict the flow of powerful AI chips to countries like China.
Added Huang, “the market we have left behind is utterly gigantic.”
Huang says the free flow of chips would help bring back tax dollars to the US and create jobs.
But this isn’t the backdrop Huang is operating against under the Trump administration.
The administration slapped restrictions on the shipment of Nvdia’s H20 chips to China without a license. The move reflects the administration’s view of protecting national security, and likely a way to put further pressure on China amidst a trade war.
Nvidia said it would be forced to take a $5.5 billion quarterly charge related to the Trump administration’s decision.
