Ohio Drivers Ed Online | OH Driving School
Students can apply for their probationary license if they are at least 16 years old. Before enrolling, teens must already hold a temporary instruction permit identification card (TIPIC), which can be obtained at age 15 1/2.
To qualify for a probationary license, the teen must hold this permit for at least six months. During this period, they must complete an ODPS-approved, 24-hour driver education course, like this one, before applying for a probationary license.
In addition to completing the online course, teens are required to complete eight hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving instructor and 50 hours of supervised driving practice, including 10 hours at night. Once these steps are completed, teens can then schedule in-person Driving and Skills tests at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).
After passing the course’s final exam, students will receive a completion certificate on their dashboard within five business days. They must present this certificate to their behind-the-wheel provider and to the Ohio BMV before taking the Driving and Skills tests. We report completions to the Ohio Department of Public Safety within one business day.
