Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Announces Exciting Nickelodeon Crossover Featuring SpongeBob, Avatar, and Turtles
Exciting Crossovers in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds
Earlier this month, Sega revealed a lineup of impressive guest characters joining the roster of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Previously announced was a diverse group including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from the Yakuza series, Joker from Persona 5, and even Minecraft icons Steve, Alex, and Creeper. However, the surprises don’t end there.
Nickelodeon Characters Join the Race
Sega has now announced a collaboration with Nickelodeon, bringing the beloved SpongeBob SquarePants into the racing universe. Fans can expect to see SpongeBob and Patrick Star racing the Patty Wagon — a vehicle designed to look like a Krabby Patty — on the Bikini Bottom track, which is the vibrant underwater setting of the series. This crossover promises to add a fun and whimsical element to the game’s diverse roster.
Teasing More Iconic Characters
In addition to SpongeBob, Sega has teased upcoming appearances from other popular franchises, including Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Although details are still under wraps, fans are eager to see how these characters will be integrated into the high-speed kart racing action.
What’s Included in the Deluxe Edition?
Players who purchase the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Digital Deluxe Edition will receive the Season Pass, unlocking a wide array of additional content. This includes the Nickelodeon characters, new vehicles, tracks, and characters from the recently announced Minecraft collaboration. The pass also grants access to characters from Netflix’s Sonic Prime series and hints at two more surprise collaborations still to be revealed.
Gameplay Footage and Character Diversity
The official trailer showcases SpongeBob and Patrick racing through Bikini Bottom in their Patty Wagon, emphasizing the playful and colorful nature of the game. Sega has confirmed that the game will feature a roster of over 40 playable characters, including fan favorites like Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails, with additional characters available via DLC.
Competing in a New Kart Racing Era
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to launch on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, positioning itself as a direct competitor to the upcoming Mario Kart World. While Nintendo’s flagship kart racer has historically avoided outside guest characters, Sega’s game is embracing cross-franchise collaborations, promising exciting battles for racing supremacy when it releases this September.
Early Impressions and Anticipation
Recently, IGN had the opportunity to try out Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and came away impressed. Our initial impression was clear: “It’s a vibe,” we said, “and one I’ve enjoyed and look forward to drifting through.” With its vibrant visuals and diverse character roster, the game is shaping up to be a must-play for fans of racing and crossover universes alike.
