Sony to Commit to At Least One Major Exclusive Game Annually, Says PlayStation President
Sony Sets New Goal: One Major Exclusive Game Per Year
As the PlayStation 5 celebrates its fifth anniversary, fans have expressed disappointment over the relatively limited number of exclusive titles compared to previous console generations. Recognizing this gap, Sony is making a strategic shift to enhance its lineup of flagship games.
Consistent Release of High-Quality Single-Player Titles
According to Hermen Hulst, President of PlayStation Studios, the company is now committed to releasing at least one major single-player game from its internal studios every year. This move aims to ensure a steady stream of high-quality, exclusive titles that meet the expectations of PlayStation fans worldwide.
Addressing Fan Concerns and Expectations
Many players have voiced their frustration over the scarcity of unique titles on the PlayStation 5, especially in comparison to the abundance of exclusives in past generations. Sony’s renewed focus on exclusive game releases is an effort to regain the excitement and loyalty of its user base.
Upcoming Major Releases and Future Plans
The flagship exclusives from Sony’s internal studios are known for their immersive single-player experiences, such as God of War and The Last of Us. Looking ahead, the highly anticipated Ghost of Yotai, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, is expected to serve as the major exclusive for 2025.
It’s worth noting that while Death Stranding 2, releasing on June 26, is published by Sony, it was developed by Kojima Productions and isn’t technically classified as an internal studio project. Nevertheless, it remains a significant and highly anticipated exclusive for the PS5.
Market Growth and Player Engagement
Recent reports reveal that the online community of PlayStation 5 players has surpassed that of PlayStation 4 for the first time. Just a year ago, the number of console owners for both generations was roughly equal, indicating a growing and engaged user base for Sony’s latest console.
