Voice Actor from Red Dead Redemption and Cyberpunk 2077 Fatally Shot in the USA

Tragic Death of a Celebrated Voice Actor in San Antonio

Jonathan Joss, a talented voice actor known for his roles in popular video games and animated series, was tragically shot and killed in San Antonio, Texas. At age 59, Joss’s distinctive voice brought to life characters in titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Cyberpunk 2077, Wasteland 3, as well as the animated series The King of the Hill.

Details of the Incident and Immediate Aftermath

According to reports from the San Antonio Express-News, Joss and his husband arrived at their burned-down home after it was consumed by fire earlier in January. Their visit was to collect mail and check on the damage caused by the fire. While on-site, a heated dispute with a neighbor escalated into violence, leading to a tragic confrontation.

Police confirmed that the suspect, 56-year-old Sigfredo Alvarez Seha, opened fire on Joss multiple times. Although he attempted to escape in a vehicle, law enforcement officers apprehended him nearby.

Allegations of Hate Crime and Longstanding Harassment

Jonathan Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonsalves, issued a statement condemning the attack as a homophobic act of violence and part of a prolonged campaign of harassment. He recounted frequent threats, intimidation, and insults directed at the couple by their neighbors over the years.

He described the harassment’s escalation, including threats and offensive gestures, which culminated in the destruction of their home. Despite multiple police reports, little was done to prevent the threats or protect the couple.

Harrowing Encounter on the Day of the Shooting

De Gonsalves detailed the events leading up to the shooting: “We were at our burned-down house, mourning our lost pet. Someone placed a skull of one of our dogs, who died in the fire, in plain sight. We were overwhelmed with grief when a man approached us and began hurling homophobic insults. Suddenly, he pulled out a pistol and fired at us. We had no weapons, and we weren’t threatening anyone — we were simply mourning.”

He added that the neighbor had previously mocked them when Joss tried to retrieve one of their dogs from the burning house.

Background and Career Highlights of Jonathan Joss

In January, Joss spoke to the media about the fire, explaining that it was caused when he and his husband attempted to cook with a charcoal grill inside their house due to the lack of gas and electricity. They believed the embers were fully extinguished before leaving, and they did not directly accuse any neighbors of arson.

Throughout his career, Jonathan Joss was known for choosing notable projects, even if his on-screen appearances were rare. His first foray into voice acting was in 1996 with Sante Fe Mysteries. Later, he voiced John Redcorn in the acclaimed animated series King of the Hill, appearing in 34 episodes over 13 seasons. His voice work extended to major video games, including Red Dead Redemption, Days Gone, Wasteland 3, The Walking Dead: Michonne, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.

Legacy and Impact in the Entertainment Industry

Joss is remembered as a voice actor who, despite limited roles, made a significant impression through his performances. Recently, he contributed new voice recordings for the upcoming reboot of King of the Hill, scheduled to premiere on Hulu this August.

His contributions to the gaming and television industries have left a lasting mark.
